Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show…. or at least, this blog.
After 16 years, my Prince Charming has yet to show up and kiss away Maleficent’s sleeping curse…. So, I’m moving. You’d think as an unmarried menace to society at the age of 33, I’d be comfortable doing everything on my own, without a second thought. Turns out, not so much. Living in the same 40 mile radius for years and moving 10-15 minutes away from each home is a heck of a lot easier than moving across the country. Into a 5th floor walkup. And a tiny room. In the most expensive city in the world. (Not sure on accuracy of that last statement, but let’s go with it.)
So, here I am, sharing with you all the questions/comments I’ve been asking myself:
- Is the tap water as good as they claim?
- Do they have Chick-fil-A in New York?
- Will all the people who have said they will come visit me, actually come visit? (Say yes!)
- What if the bed I’m buying from the former roommate is terrible?
- How am I going to fit all my clothes in the closet?
- Do I need to buy more black?
- Why are groceries so expensive?
- Does it make me high maintenance if I have them delivered?
- Who will be my friend?
- Where will I watch the Bachelorette?
- Do people in NYC watch the Bachelorette?
- Do I need another umbrella?
- Last time I visited, mine almost broke in the wind. Maybe I forgo the umbrella altogether…
- Buying a one-way ticket is weird. And just as expensive as round trip.
- Was this a terrible idea?
- Will I get pedestrian walking rage, like I get road rage here in Utah?
- Are there really that many rats?
- Why is Orange Theory so expensive?
- Shouldn’t it be mandated that every building has an elevator?
- Will I stop almost crying three times a day due to pre-emptive homesickness?
- Or will I just start crying from ACTUAL homesickness?
- Should I attempt to carry my boxes from IKEA in Brooklyn, or just suck it up and pay for delivery?
- Is there ANYTHING that can’t be delivered in NYC?
- Will all the people who have said they will come visit me, actually come visit? (Say yes!)
They say love is making space in your life for someone else. All the insecurities and questions and fears aside, I’ve decided to make that big space in my life. And this small town girl can’t wait to fall in love with New York City.
You know you love me….
